obsessive_a101: (Mary is totally adorable)
Just for the last fifteen minutes or so alone. :)

[livejournal.com profile] kosmikdawg has an icon. An adorable dancing-jiggling-pig icon.

My little sister and I just spent the last quarter hour laughing ourselves to tears on the floor while clutching our sides in pain from the sheer joy of that icon.

Oh, and she and I both failed spectacularly trying to imitate it.

*hugs and wishes all of you lots of laughs as well*

P.S. Sister: You lost the game, LJ people <3

P.P.S. -_-" Please feel free to ignore my little sister there. Though if you DO know about the game, then yes, apparently, you have lost. *sigh* My sister is stubborn.

Hi guys! Sorry for apparently spamming, but... I just wanted to share.

First, one of my friends is working with the No Nonsense apparel company and doing the "Socks for America" tour. They are basically traveling to regions around the country to donate socks (provided by No Nonsense - who has committed to donating 1,000,000 pairs in the next two years) to underprivileged families and will be documenting in their blog on this site: http://socksforamerica.com/, as well as filming, their travels and experiences. They are donating socks because they are, to quote, "... one of the least donated items to charities and one of the most needed."

It's a sentiment I appreciate all the more as a person who's afraid of the cold and cold feet. It caught my attention in particular because socks are such a basic everyday item that it has never even come to my mind, and the company's no-nonsense name seems to fit right into it. (Also, all HP fans - remember Dumbledore!)

Anyway, more information can be found on the page above with info, also, on how you can help, or even if you just want to follow along in their endeavors and explore the country and its people and stories with them. They have a facebook page as well that you can "like" (ETA) and each like will mean another sock donated from the company. Just passing the info on, and it takes only a few seconds. Literally! :D

China's Got Talent: the 65-five-year-old grandmother who...

would outdance me on the party floor. :)

(Also, she has an adorable grandson.)
obsessive_a101: (Laura - Implied Smile)
I realized a mention a few days back that I would do an actual... "post". However, crazy week(s) is still crazy, and I'm... sort of sick. (^_^)" So, instead, I hope you don't mind my bombardment of music (basically covers, recently, that I have been really fond of).

"Heartless" originally sung by Kanye West as covered by Dia Frampton on The Voice: (so amazing, it blew my DAD away, which says a lot since he's not very into these sort of things)
Please click here, because I can't embed this one, but it's really SO good.

Music! Who doesn't love music? :D )
obsessive_a101: (Laura - Studious)
As the subject heading says, it's been... an interesting few days, and hopefully, I'll actually be able to settle down soon and catch up and do an actual update. However, I just wanted to take the chance to use one of the icons so kindly gifted me from [livejournal.com profile] akachankami! Isn't it pretty? And adorable? Hee. (I am hoping to finally upload more soon.)

In the mean time, I hope everyone is doing well. :) Hopefully, everyone's getting their daily dose of Vitamin D from the sun now that it's shining more consistently.

*hugs to you all*

I'm not sure what to say except thank you *bows head* to the person who has gifted with paid LJ time. (^_^)" I'm still not sure what to do, except I'll try to at least have some icons fun this time. :)

Also, to share in the joy, please enjoy this spectacular cuteness:

Baby: "Mommy! Mommy! Look, I'm moving! I'm not moving but I'm moving!"

Mom: "Mmhmm... yes, dear..."

Turtle: "Gmphungmnmspffffpojwjfffff!..."

Sometimes, I love silly and random animes just for it's silliness and awesome lessons in fangirling. :)

Most of my f-list of BSG tendency has probably already seen or heard of this, but just case...

There is extreme EPICNESS currently going on over at [livejournal.com profile] bsg_epics, so check it out if you'd like!

There are still exchanges open (I think), and now, a Prompt List has appeared for those people unfamiliar with certain ships (like me! like me! OHGODS WHAT AM I DOING?!). *ahem* Ignore that please.

As I were saying, there is now a prompt list for those taking on the ship-swap meme fic exchange, and even if you do not join in the exchange, please feel free to submit prompts.

So, recently over the weekend [livejournal.com profile] deborah_judge was modding happily along at [livejournal.com profile] bsg_epics, and she brought up a very intriguing idea involving three wishes of what we would have liked from canon. Reading the resulting comments... sort of bloomed into a morning wake-up call from the muse, and basically, this story. I apologize for my tendency for impulsive writing, and I am not at all sure about how I've written the voices in this fic.

While Dee is a character that I relate well with, it made it all the more difficult to find her voice because I am, myself, not always sure what will get out of my head and into the physical world. However, I am happy because it is the first time I've seriously tried handling these two characters. Anyway, as always, thank you for reading and any feedback/critique is always appreciated. (I also apologize for any inconsistencies. I have not been able to re-watch these episodes since they aired/the first time I saw them, so I depend a lot on secondary sources and faulty memory.)

Title: with my three wishes clutched in her hand
Fandom: Battlestar Galactica
Genre: Gen with a side-dose of Angst (if you've seen these episodes, that should be self-evident)
Rating: T
Wordcount: more or less 1700
Spoilers: I'd like to say everything again, but at the very least, the first half of season 4.5
Characters/Pairings: Dee, Felix, and Laura (guest-starring Lee); all canon pairings implied
Summary: AU - Step 1: You say, "We need to talk."

A BSG ficlet from a post over at [livejournal.com profile] bsg_epics about characters that we like but underuse.

I had chosen Boomer and received the prompt "Mistaken Identity" from [livejournal.com profile] astreamofstars, which... resulted in my being torn between using the prompt literally or more... twistingly. I still don't know about the end result. LOL! Also, warning: this was written while I was half-asleep, which is when I do most of my writing.

Almost 300 words
Characters: Sharon "Boomer" Valerii
Fandom: BSG
Genre: Gen
Rating: None really except for one imaginary curse word.

It had been a mistake... )

So, I think there's been some recent blah-ness lately due to well... many, many reasons. *hugs f-list again* And as [livejournal.com profile] zinke wisely told me recently, laughter IS the best medicine, so I hope this post makes everyone laugh at least a little bit.

More below cut if you'd like (and recs). )

As some may already know, due to an overlap in f-lists, [livejournal.com profile] nnaylime has been raising funds for Dora, her beautiful dog, for the vet care she needs. She's holding two sales with links over at her journal for BSG Memorabilia and BPAL products, so please check it out. :)

*hugs you all* Also, I hope everyone is well! The weather seems to finally be clearing up. There were some beautiful rain showers today.

Why... I don't know. LOL!

From [livejournal.com profile] zinke:

Leave a ONE WORD comment that you think best describes me. It can only be one word. No more than one word. Then copy & paste this post to your own journal so I can leave a word about you.

Because I really should apologize by I'm dilly-dallying on that shipping meme from [livejournal.com profile] amethysth

This is the WIP meme nicked from [livejournal.com profile] icedteainthebag and [livejournal.com profile] miabicicletta in my late night wonderings. (Some of them are actually open right now on my computer, and I'm hoping their WIP status is not to remain... as such, but anyways. Onward.)

Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. (Note: some titles liable to change while other WIPs may never be... uhmm... completed)

Books Under the Table Lamp
Set the Crystal Note in the Sky
Five Deals (Hi! [livejournal.com profile] daigranon, this is yours... ><" just so you don't give up on ever seeing it. I will climb over the wall eventually...)

Breaking Chains
Butterfly Effect
Ministers of Education at War
Planet Earth
Red Seeds Dripping

Small Graces

There is a certain beauty about death

- Completely unrelated but with BSG on my mind, this is interesting: http://www-03.ibm.com/innovation/us/watson/what-is-watson/countdown-to-jeopardy.html That said - has anyone ever read Richard Powers' Galetea 2.2?

And [livejournal.com profile] daigranon! I am so sorry I am so tardy, but your belated fic is coming. >>" It's just... coming together rather slowly. *sigh* Sorry.

Anyway, HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR everyone! Or Chinese New Year, whichever way, politically correct or not. :) Therefore, things have been their normal crazy self except multiplied by maybe 14 (the length of time the New Year lasts... or was it 15?). Anyway, so it's hectic, but I hope everyone else is doing well and staying safe and warm with all the crazy weather that's been coming around.

To end this, my favorite New Year's song when I was little (and still my favorite now I believe):

Anyway, good night! (Or day if you're on the other side of the world.) ♥

And may all the rabbits jump happily. :D

for the anonymous person who gifted me with some paid LJ time.

I honestly don't know what to say, except thank you. Though honestly, I have no IDEA what to do with it. :) (Except I will quickly go looking for pretty icons and many people will probably be grateful that I can now edit my comments. XD)

PS: Ah... after I figure out what exactly I did to my browser/browsing history. *sigh* Technology + I=severe!FAIL... I only deleted a few cookies. :3 Hmm.

PPS: Dear [livejournal.com profile] icedteainthebag I apologize for the possibly random/incomprehensible PM I sent last night. I blame the awkward timing of my checking something on my profile and the lag between LJ notifications. ><" Please ignore, though yes, I am still very happy to be friends. XD

Speaking of which, hi to other new friends!
obsessive_a101: (Default)
Hiya everyone, still sorting things through, but I came across an interesting music video earlier today by Ian Axel - for the New Year. :)

And that led me to this:

Which, as he placed in the description, "For the past 2 weeks, 60 pianos were installed all over the streets of NYC...in the parks, on the streets, in the plazas. The project, developed by British artist Luke Jerram, is called "Play Me, I'm Yours" and was presented in NYC by Sing for Hope. Living in this city can make you feel pretty isolated and small. But imagine walking down the street with thousands of people rushing by, cars honking, pigeons almost flying into you, and seeing a group of people gathered around a piano connecting with one another. And then walking a few more blocks and seeing the same thing again in a totally different environment. And then seeing it again, and again, a stage where the whole world is listening and willing to share. It was a brilliant experience, and I'm very grateful to have been a part of it. I hope you enjoy the video!"

The idea, of which, was developed by this person:

Luke Jerram )

Just, my general reaction - OHMYGOSHSOAWESOME!!! :)

That said, has anyone on my f-list watched "The Sing-Off"? Because I mainlined the second season relatively recently and can't stop thinking about it. XD

EDIT: Of note, these events were held in the summer (of course). Precipitation (and actually, most environmental factors) don't mix well with pianos sadly. :) Anyway, music to all! And to all a good night! *hugs*

*waves* Hi!

Anyway, onwards then. The following items are for the always wonderful and lovely [livejournal.com profile] icedteainthebag, who is also our mod on this beautiful community. I was both excited AND terrified. Anyway, I hope the presents fit in with the request. I HOPE! Anyway, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Title: Wear the Masks on Dionysia Day
Fandom: Battlestar Galactica
Genre: Uhmm... Is cracky!Angst a genre?
Rating: T
Spoilers: Everything. Well, I always say that just in case.
Characters/Pairings: *ahem* Six(es)/Baltar//Laura with a side of Laura/Bill and Laura/Billy fun
Summary: This, in a way, also addresses the two very diverse depictions of Baltar as a character – the serious arbiter of great tragedy and the comic fool of a divine play. See what I did there? I have a feeling this is already heading towards crack. >>” Anyway, my first attempt at writing this… relationship (as well as this character – in a way), so have at it. Also, all mistakes are unfortunately mine.

Cavorting on the shores, drown the child, let it drown... )

Now, Part II:
Title: Gifts Laura Roslin Didn’t Get for People from Present-Day Earth (AKA: “Our” Earth)
Fandom: Battlestar Galactica
Genre: Crack/Humour
Rating: K+
Spoilers: Everything. Well, I always say that just in case.
Characters/Pairings: Laura's mind... on various characters; A/R
Summary: The woes and joys of a successful holiday shopping spree.

Honestly... )

*headdesk and hugs you and all the others!* I really do hope it's all okay. My writing... has been more than a bit odd. LOL! :) Thank you for organizing all of this as well.
